Stop Smart Meters! (UK) – We Are Being Censored

On Thursday this week (21-Feb-13), we were alerted to a BBC Radio 4 “You and Yours” programme featuring Smart Meters.  As disappointed as we were not to be invited to appear on the show, we still took the opportunity to tweet a few contributions under the #YouAndYours hashtag on social networking site, Twitter.

You can see all the contributions the show received under the #YouandYours hashtag for yourself here – all, that is, except for ours.  None of the information we posted appeared, meaning anyone following reactions to this BBC production couldn’t receive our perspective on it.  By way of evidence, you can see all of the tweets we posted under our own feed here, as well as in the comparison graphic below.

Whilst this will not come as a surprise to many of our readers, it should serve as a wake-up call to anyone who still believes that the Smart Meter programme is there to serve you – the consumer.

It isn’t.

As we have repeatedly said, despite the expensive rhetoric and lavish sophism -seemingly from all angles- the Smart Meter agenda is not about empowering you with information, whether that information is coming via a Smart Meter, the radio or the BBC’s Twitter feed.

As they say, the worst thing about censorship is ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡   ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡   ≡≡≡≡.  We are therefore taking this important milestone in time to call for your help in continuing to help us get the word out about Smart Meters as quickly and as widely as possible.  We are in possession of another monster order of leaflets and will send a free batch out to anyone who wants one so they can get the word out to their neighbours and friends.  Just email us with a postal address to info [at] stopsmartmeters.org.uk or use the contact form in the menu above.  As far as we know, traditional letterboxes still aren’t that easy to censor.

  1. I also tried to contact them by phone to point out the other side of this story, but no luck!

  2. I for one don’t want a smart meter, with the growing opposition I can see that there will be a change in the law so we have to have ’em.

  3. Not all that surprised, my posts don’t seem to appear on UK websites. I suspect theyall go through a filter?

  4. I have tried to print the leaflets stop smart meters quite a few times but they are always blurred. anything else I print is fine.

    • Sorry about that Susan, we will try to remedy for you – if you would like us to send you some, email us your postal address (info [at] stopsmartmeters.org.uk).

  5. What also worries me is who knows what else will be ‘implanted’ in these spy machines. If people accept these into their homes It would also be like leaving their microwave oven on all day with the door wide open. Most people don’t even know that its microwave radiation that operates their phones and DECT phones. I do believe that twitter and other media are censoring info. Not easy to educate peope when it’s like this, got to be others ways……. somehow!

    • Eight tweets, none appeared. There were 20 tweets under that hashtag for 21 Feb. Does that sound like good quality indexing or random selection? Hardly.

  6. The BBC are pure scum. They will be happy for us all to be poisoned & spied upon.
