Artwork: Banksy vs ‘Smart’ Meters

Not only is Banksy a great artist, he is also a champion for logic and reason.  And while we can’t say for certain that he finds so-called ‘Smart’ Meters as repugnant as we do, we’d be willing to take a bet that he does.

Some of our favourite Banksy quotes:

“The people who run our cities dont understand graffiti because they think nothing has the right to exist unless it makes a profit… the people who truly deface our neighborhoods are the companies that scrawl giant slogans across buildings and buses trying to make us feel inadequate unless we buy their stuff… any advertisement in public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours, it belongs to you , its yours to take, rearrange and re use.  Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head…”

“You owe the companies nothing. You especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.”

“Smart Meters are NOT smart – at all… I mean, who in their right mind would want a cancer-causing spy box in their home, blasting them with non-ionising radiation 24 hours a day, handing over intelligence about their lifestyles to goodness-knows-who 24 hours a day, which serves to do nothing more than feed the insatiable corporate appetite for monetising every single aspect of our existence?  And for what, a supposed saving of 23 quid a year – it’ll cost that for a packet of fags soon … And what part of “190,000 intense pulses of microwave radiation PER DAY” is ‘green’?  Are you serious!?  What kind of planet did these people live on before it exploded? … Do yourself a favour and tell these Big Energy company suits to shove it… Hasn’t anyone bothered reading my stuff?  I don’t stand on street corners with a can of paint in my hand at 3 o’clock in the morning just to make people laugh while they’re having a p***!!  Although, I must admit that that’s part of it…”*

(*We might have made up that last one)

We love Banksy.

  1. Quite literally the most insane piece of writing I’ve ever seen on a website. Smart meters are fine. They send a message once a month to say what your reading is…. if Banksy is “a champion for logic and reason” then he’d be well up for them. idiots.

    • Dear Bobby,

Where are you getting your information from? You presumably haven’t seen the following document obtained for legal proceedings in California which we posted some months ago. Table 2.1 shows that Smart Meters can emit up to 190,000 pulses per day – where did you get once a month from?

Regarding your point about them being “fine”, which of the 5,000+ studies showing harmful effects from (in many cases extremely low levels of) electromagnetic radiation do you feel supports that contention?

Are you aware of the other major risks associated with Smart Meters, some of which have been highlighted by past and present members of the security services such as the CIA and GCHQ? Did you see our report showing that some Smart Meters are only rated down to -10 degrees whereas we went to -20 two years ago? Did you know a group of ethical hackers in Germany showed how vulnerable Smart Meter security is and how much detail can be gained about what people are up to in their homes, including who is present?
